The City of Peterborough has an Idling Control By-Law, which came into effect on November 1, 2008. The by-law limits vehicle idling to two minutes. The purpose of the by-law is to reduce unnecessary vehicle emissions because they contribute to local air pollution, health problems and climate change.
Vehicles idling in excess of two minutes are subject to a fine of $30.
