This year's International Walk to School event will be held at Westmount Public School and St. Teresa's Catholic School.
The event, organized by Active and Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) Peterborough, will include members of the Peterborough Petes, Cool Captain Climate, Elmer the Safety Elephant and others greeting students as they arrive at school. Students from both schools will then participate in a walk around the block.
The event also will officially launch a new Car-Free School Days program in Peterborough City and County. This program will encourage students to use active transportation to travel to and from school on the first Wednesday of each month, rather than ride in a car. Active transportation includes walking, riding a bicycle, or taking the designated school bus or transit bus.
